Chinese Catastrophe

Over 12,000 people have died in the recent earthquake scare in the province of Sichuan in China, and almost 18,000 are feared buried from the rubbles and ruins in Mianyang city, which is near the epicenter of the said disaster. A cyclone named Nargis struck Myanmar last week which took over 100,000 lives and destroyed living conditions of Burmese people. Twenty-three were reported dead after a series of tornadoes decided to visit Arkansas and Oklahoma, which is still ongoing as of this moment. Hell literally peeks at South Florida as several of its counties and areas are burning from wildfires. And Boston succumbed to Cleveland from the NBA second round Playoffs last night which makes it 2-2 in the stands. (Hey, that’s devastating news for me).

The news is reporting so much disasters and catastrophe that one can’t help but fear for the human race. Well, not really to the point of the apocalypse but you never know. As I was watching the news, I saw these Chinese volunteers pulling this kid from the ruins of a school and what a sight it was. The kid was alive by the way, but his classmates were not so lucky. Lifeless body parts are hanging from rubbles and signs of life are slowly fading. Even this rare specie of pandas were affected but not to worry, as they’re safe. It’s like a scene taken from one of those big-budgeted Hollywood disaster movies. Tsk tsk tsk…

And here I was thinking I had a bad day. Correction: I had a lethargic day. It’s like 2006 all over again. Don’t care about schedules, don’t care if I’m late, hell, I don’t even care if they sanction me or what; I ain’t doing reports because it was never my responsibility in the first place. Sorry! I know there are people who have bigger problems, massive even, than me. Just needed to get that out of my system.

Let’s all pray for the lives lost and for those who are yet to be saved from these catastrophes. May their families and loved ones find comfort in knowing that they’re okay. And may the Chinese community recover from all of these.

The news are indeed appalling. My prayers are with them.
